Ukraine war: Germany delivers these weapons to Ukraine

It took four long months: On Tuesday, for the first time since the beginning of the war, the federal government stopped all arms deliveries to the Ukraine disclosed.

Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit explained the step by adapting it to the practice of the closest allies – for example the USA.

► The list contains all weapons and other armaments that have already been delivered or whose delivery is planned. It can now be found on the website of the federal government. So far, it was only visible to members of parliament in the secret protection office of the Bundestag.

So far, the German government has only publicly announced its deliveries to the Ukrainian armed forces for defensive combat against Russia. However, they were published by the Ukrainian side after they arrived in the war zone.

What has been delivered so far:

According to the list now published by the federal government, Germany has so far delivered 3,000 Panzerfaust cartridges, 100,000 hand grenades and 2,700 Fliegerfaust.

In addition, 500 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, 100 machine guns and 16 million rounds of ammunition went to the Ukrainian armed forces.

There is also equipment such as 23,000 combat helmets, 178 motor vehicles, 1,200 hospital beds, a field hospital and much more.

Ring exchange with Slovakia burst

It had previously become known on Tuesday that a German-Slovakian Ring exchange for arms supplies to Ukraine threatens to burst – because Berlin offers too few tanks!

Accordingly, Germany offered Slovakia 15 Leopard 2 A4 tanks as a replacement if it itself supplies 30 Soviet T-72 tanks to Ukraine.

But the country apparently rejected this ring exchange last week. A Defense Ministry spokeswoman in Bratislava said: “The reality is that we cannot accept the form of support that the Czech Republic or other countries have promised. They deliver one device to the Ukraine and receive two devices from Germany or another country in return.”

And further: “Slovakia has 30 T-72 tanks. So 15 Leopard main battle tanks cannot be a solution for us as we need 30 main battle tanks for a tank battalion.”

Union wants vote in the Bundestag

Meanwhile, the CDU/CSU want to see to thatthat Parliament increases the pressure for supplies to Ukraine. This week, a motion is to be voted on that would encourage Chancellor Scholz to finally deliver the promised military equipment.

The explosive thing about it: The application could meet with approval from the factions of the traffic light parties. Because there, too, there is frustration about the snail’s pace of arms deliveries, especially among the FDP and the Greens.

The motion raises the alarm: “The Ukrainian army threatens to bleed dry” if the supplies of modern weapons and ammunition don’t arrive.
