According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine has nothing to do with the alleged death of mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin. Accordingly, Zelenskyj expressed himself on the sidelines of the celebrations of Ukraine’s Independence Day. “Everyone knows who has something to do with it,” Zelenskyj told journalists. Ukraine declared its independence on August 24, 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. On February 24, 2022, exactly half a year before Independence Day, Russia began its war of aggression against the neighboring country. Mayor Vitali Klitschko banned major celebrations in the capital Kiev in view of the risk of Russian air raids. Nevertheless, the fallen Ukrainian soldiers were commemorated in the Ukrainian capital. In his speech Zelenskyy praised his compatriots as a free people. “We remember what the Ukrainian people went through, we see the threats, we fight the enemy and we know that we can and will win. Ukrainian children will celebrate Ukraine’s independence in Ukrainian squares and streets. Our Grandchildren and grandchildren of our grandchildren will celebrate independence together with our country’s friends, allies and partners, which Ukraine will always freely choose.” The Ukrainian President praised his country’s military, which is currently conducting a counter-offensive against invading Russian forces in southern and eastern Ukraine. There is no doubt that Ukraine will win the war, said Zelenskyy.
