The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine is entering its 141st day. In terms of grain exports, hope is burgeoning: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj is optimistic about a way out of the dispute over the Russian naval blockade. At the talks between representatives of the United Nations, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey in Istanbul, a “decisive step” was taken towards a solution to the grain conflict, said UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.

There could also be progress in the dispute over the Kaliningrad transit. Following protests and threats from Moscow, the EU Commission has drawn up new guidelines for transit traffic between Russia and its Baltic Sea exclave of Kaliningrad.

Meanwhile, fighting in eastern Ukraine continues. In the Donetsk region, the separatists, supported by the Russian army, have claimed territory gains in the small town of Soledar.
