The russian navy has according to of the Ministry of Defense test missiles during military exercises on decoys in the Japanese sea fired.
“In the waters of the Sea of Japan, missile boats from the Pacific Fleet fired Moskit cruise missiles at a simulated enemy sea target,” the ministry said on Telegram. Two ships took part in the exercise.
The target, 100 kilometers away, was “successfully hit by two Moskit cruise missiles.” Moscow says its naval aviators monitored the “safety of the combat exercise.”
Russia’s far eastern Pacific coast is separated from Japan by the narrow Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea. Last week, Russia said two of its Tu-95 strategic bombers had “flighted in airspace over neutral waters in the Sea of Japan.”
The exercises of the Russian Pacific Fleet took place a week after Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit to Ukraine instead of. Kishida met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kiev.
Japan has joined Western allies in sanctioning Russia over its offensive in Ukraine.
