Since the start of the Ukraine war a year ago France took in around 100,000 Ukrainian refugees. According to the French Interior Ministry in Paris, around 490 million euros were spent on taking in the refugees, around half of them for their accommodation. The refugees from Ukraine were housed in hotels, empty holiday resorts and emergency shelters, among other things.
However, several aid organizations accuse the government of Treating Ukrainian refugees preferentially compared to migrants from other countries. “What has been done for the Ukrainians should serve as an example for future refugee crises,” says Delphine Rouilleault, head of France terre d’asile.

Around 80 percent of the refugees are women. France has granted temporary residency permits (not counting children) to some 88,000 Ukrainians since the beginning of the war, giving them access to the labor market, health care, schools and certain social services.
