Russia and Ukraine report mutual night-time drone attacks. Politicians from the FDP and Greens are demanding delivery of Taurus systems. All developments in our live blog.

The heads of state and government of the European Union want to continue to support Ukraine in the fight against Russia in the future. This emerges from a draft declaration for the summit next Thursday. It says it wants to continue to provide Ukraine with “timely, predictable and sustained military support.” “The European Council also reiterates the urgent need to accelerate the delivery of ammunition and missiles,” the draft text continued.

On Tuesday night, the Russian army attacked Ukraine again with combat drones. There were air alerts throughout the east and south. The Ukrainian military reports a total of 35 drones were fired at energy and military infrastructure. The air defense destroyed 15 of the drones. There was no information about possible victims or damage.

According to Russian air defense, Ukraine attacked the annexed Crimean peninsula and four other regions with drones on Tuesday night. According to the Defense Ministry in Moscow, 21 missiles were repelled, eleven of them over Crimea. In addition to the peninsula, the regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga and Tula in southwest Russia were also affected. There was no information about damage or injuries.

The supply of soldiers, weapons and ammunition runs through Crimea. Ukraine is therefore trying to destroy military targets there.

Conflict parties as a source

In the current situation, information on the course of the war, shelling and casualties provided by official bodies of the Russian and Ukrainian parties to the conflict cannot be directly verified by an independent body.

The Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, Carsten Breuer, has reaffirmed Germany’s special responsibility in NATO with a view to the upcoming large-scale military exercise “Quadriga”. “Germany is the backbone of Europe’s defense,” said Germany’s highest-ranking soldier. The “Quadriga” exercise is an important step towards war capability with the aim of deterring an enemy.

A total of more than 12,000 men and women from the Bundeswehr will be involved in the exercise, the first alert phase of which has already begun. It is the largest exercise by German land forces since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. The soldiers involved train alerting, deployment to NATO’s external borders in the northeast and southeast, and combat.

Calls for a delivery of “Taurus” cruise missiles to Ukraine are becoming louder from the ranks of the FDP and the Greens. Bundestag Vice President Göring-Eckardt (Greens) told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that Germany must “measure itself against what we promised. And we promised that we would provide everything we can and what Ukraine needs.”

FDP parliamentary group leader Dürr made a similar statement: “I think it makes sense and is right to support Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles.” What Ukraine needs is military help to defend itself against Russia.

The EU has agreed on a plan to use frozen Russian funds for Ukraine. The Ukrainian defense minister reports “many violations” in supply deliveries to the military. You can read more about this in Monday’s live blog.
