Air alert was sounded across the country – a wave of cruise missiles was preceded by an attack with drones. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reports destruction in the capital.

The Ukrainian capital Kiev came under heavy fire from Russian cruise missiles during the night. According to reports, there were violent explosions of anti-aircraft missiles against the incoming shells over the city.

Rocket debris fell on buildings in at least two districts, Mayor Vitali Klitschko told Telegram in the morning. Several fires broke out, including in an administration building and in a commercial establishment. At least two people were killed and two others injured.

The head of the military administration in the city of three million, Serhiy Popko, also told Telegram that one of the injured was a woman who was taken to a hospital with glass splinter wounds.

The wave of cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea area was preceded by a drone attack from the north. Air alerts had been raised across the country. There were also reports of missiles approaching in the southern Ukrainian region of Odessa.

Ukraine has been repelling a Russian invasion for over 18 months. Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defenses have been modernized with Western help.
