In view of the worsening Ukraine crisis, several NATO member states are increasing their military presence in Eastern Europe. The alliance announced that it would send more combat aircraft and naval vessels.

A number of NATO member states are increasing their military presence in Eastern Europe because of tensions with Russia. The alliance announced on Monday that additional combat aircraft and naval vessels would be sent to the Baltic Sea and Eastern European countries such as Lithuania and Bulgaria. The background is fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to the statement, NATO countries such as Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands want to increase their military presence in Eastern Europe, while the US and France are considering doing so. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the member states’ announcement. “NATO will continue to take all necessary measures to protect and defend all alliance partners,” emphasized the Norwegian.
