Prince Charles and his wife Camilla spoke to representatives of Ukrainians living in the UK about the situation in their homeland. The descriptions were very close to the Duchess – and were not without consequences.

It was an emotional appointment: Duchess Camilla and her husband Prince Charles visited the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London on Wednesday and lit candles in memory of the victims of war in the European country.

Around 70,000 Ukrainians live in Great Britain. The heir to the throne spoke to representatives of this population group about the situation in their homeland and the looming humanitarian crisis. The conversation was apparently very urgent: As the “Daily Mail” reports, the Duchess is said to have cried. “We are praying for you,” Camilla said to the Ukrainian ambassador’s wife, according to the report. Prince Charles is said to have praised the “extraordinary courage and bravery” of the Ukrainian people in the face of “terrible aggression”.

Generous donation from Duchess Camilla

But warm words didn’t stop there. The future royal wife would like to make her own contribution and, according to the “Daily Mail”, donated a “considerable” sum to the British newspaper publisher’s appeal for refugees. In the meantime, £2.5 million has already been received there for the people of Ukraine. “The horrific scenes of the Ukrainian refugees leave no one unmoved,” Camilla’s spokesman said of the donation, “and the Duchess wanted to help in any way she could.”

Prince Charles is also said to have donated after the conversation. The “Daily Mail” suspects that the money went to two charities whose patron is Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest son: the British Red Cross and the organization World Jewish Relief.

Prince Charles is number one in line to the British throne, making him the next King of England. His wife Camilla will then bear the title “Queen Consort”, which means something like king’s wife.
