UK says ‘shocked by bloodshed’ in Gaza, where war ‘must end’

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Saturday that his country was “dismayed by the killing of brave heroes”. Seven aid workers, including three Britons, were killed in the Gaza Strip by an Israeli drone on Monday.

The United Kingdom is “shocked by the bloodshed” in Gaza and “this terrible war must end”, declared this Saturday April 6, the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, six months after the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas .

“Six months have passed since the October 7 terrorist attack, the most horrific attack in Israel’s history,” the prime minister said in a statement. On October 7, Hamas commandos infiltrated from Gaza carried out an attack in southern Israel which resulted in the deaths of 1,170 people in Israel, the majority civilians killed the same day, according to an AFP count carried out in based on official Israeli figures.

More than 250 people were kidnapped and taken to Gaza where 129 are still detained, among whom more than 30 have died according to the army.

UK ‘dismayed by killing of brave British heroes’

The Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which knows no respite, has left more than 33,000 dead, according to Hamas. “We continue to defend Israel’s right to defeat the threat of Hamas terrorists and to defend its security,” assured Rishi Sunak.

“But the whole of the UK is shocked by the bloodshed and appalled by the killing of brave British heroes who brought food to those in need,” he added.

Seven aid workers, including three Britons, were killed in the Palestinian territory on Monday by an Israeli drone after supervising the unloading of a ship carrying food aid.

“This terrible war must end. The hostages must be released. Aid (…) must flow,” continued Rishi Sunak. “The children of Gaza need an immediate humanitarian break, leading to a long-term sustainable ceasefire,” added the Prime Minister, believing that this is the “quickest way to bring out hostages and deliver aid.
