Ugo Humbert qualifies France for the group stage

It goes ! France qualified for the Davis Cup group stage by overcoming Hungary 3-2, thanks to Ugo Humbert’s victory over Fabian Marozsan 6-3 6-3 on Saturday in Tatabanya. All in control, the young Messin (86th player in the world) was very solid in service (81% of first serves) and dominated Marozsan, a last-minute substitute for Zsombor Piros, in 1h04.

The debates were initially balanced, the two opponents going blow for blow from the baseline in the first set. But the French, winner the day before his single for his first selection, accelerated at the end of the set to break away. Called in 5th man by Sébastien Grosjean, Humbert was very aggressive from the start by directly offering the service of his opponent, before registering a shutout.

Meeting in Málaga

Marozsan, winner of the doubles at the start of the day against the pair Mahut / Rinderknech, did not have the energy to catch up, losing a second game of service at 5-3. After the double on Saturday, Adrian Mannarino had allowed France to pick up the score by beating Marton Fucsovics 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.

With this victory, the Blues have validated their ticket for the group stage of the competition which will take place from September 12 to 17. The Davis Cup Finals – an eight-team knockout draw – will take place over a week in November in Malaga (Spain).
