This year too, fans of Udo Jürgens don’t have to go without his songs at Christmas. A collection will be published posthumously.
The new album by the late musician legend will be released on November 10th Udo Jürgens (1934-2014) on store shelves. Since today, September 29th, you can pre-order “The Most Beautiful Songs at Christmas Time”. This is what fans can expect in this new compilation by the singer, who died shortly before Christmas Eve in 2014 at the age of 80: The edition contains a total of 55 recordings on three CDs, each grouped together thematically.
The first CD contains 14 original compositions by Udo Jürgens under the title “Christmas at Home”. Including the title “Schneerose” from 1967. But interpretations of five absolute classics such as “Leise trickeln der Schnee” or “Silent Night, Holy Night” can also be found on it. As a bonus track there is “Merry Christmas everyone” as a live recording from the last Udo Jürgens concert in Zurich.
Duet with José Carreras included
The second CD “Christmas all over the world” takes the listener musically to more distant realms. Of course, there are also classics like “Jingle Bells” or “White Christmas”, but Jürgens also sings a French version of “O Tannenbaum” or Spanish and Italian Christmas hits. As a bonus track at the end there is “Yo creo”, the Spanish version of “I believe”.
The third and final CD rounds off the collection under the heading “Time of Songs, Time of Silence”. The aim is to pass on the Christian message of peace, love and confidence. Also included is the duet “My Biggest Wish” with Spanish star tenor José Carreras. The three-part CD box is also offered as a four-part vinyl set.
During his career, Udo Jürgens was considered one of the most successful entertainment musicians in German-speaking countries. His songs usually fell somewhere between hits, pop and chanson. In 2014 he died of sudden heart failure during a walk in his long-time adopted home of Switzerland. Since 2007 he has had both Austrian and Swiss citizenship.
