Ubisoft is closing “inactive” Ubisoft accounts, resulting in affected users losing access to their purchased games.
A Twitter user reported that he received an email from Ubisoft warning of possible account suspension and loss of games if he does not click on a given link within a certain period of time.
what you can do
Responding on Twitter, Ubisoft’s support team suggested that users could prevent the account suspension by logging in and clicking the link provided within 30 days.
The company explained that the account suspensions are in response to local privacy laws and will affect inactive accounts with no current activity. However, Ubisoft assured that accounts with purchases would be kept for at least four years, although some users claim that the recent email refutes this statement.
This incident draws renewed attention to the issues related to DRM and digital games. If, for example, Ubisoft takes a digital game out of sale, a possible subsequent account deletion could prevent the preservation of the respective title.
