Two off-piste skiers trigger an avalanche and get away with a big scare

Two Spanish tourists who were skiing off-piste triggered an avalanche on Sunday at Cambre d’Aze, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. One of the two skiers was swept away by the snowflow, but he escaped with a big fright, managing to extract himself from the snow. The other skier managed to avoid the snow slide.

This incident required the intervention of the high mountain gendarmerie platoon of Osséja. The soldiers, supported by rescue workers and the Dragon 66 helicopter, carried out searches to ensure that no other victims had been trapped in the avalanche. The two skiers, for their part, were airlifted and brought to safety.
