He (finally) emerges from his silence. Journalist Taha Bouhafs, accused of sexual assault, had given up running in the legislative elections under the Nupes label. The journalist-activist, ex-candidate in the 14th district of the Rhône, who has not said a word about this affair since, spoke on Tuesday on Twitter. He believes that it is time for him “to speak again, to give explanations (…) And ask for the answers” that we owe him.
“We” is above all his party, LFI, on which he fires red balls. A party which, he says, has abandoned him and which has given him no news since mid-May. Taha Bouhafs then calls for “a fair and equitable procedure without which” he could “know what he is accused of exactly”.
Return “one last time” to the name “of this justice”
In an “open letter to rebellious France”, the former candidate explains returning “one last time” in the name of “this justice” to those they call his “comrades”. “I don’t cling to any job, I don’t have any anymore. But I don’t want the case to be covered up, forgotten. I simply ask you for a fair and equitable procedure where the fundamental adversarial principle will be respected, ”concludes Taha Bouhafs. Under the latter, the young activist also apologizes “to those among[s] supporters who were disturbed by this silence for which they did not know the reason”. And to conclude: “I no longer have any role today, I simply ask to be able to defend myself. »
As a reminder, insubordinate France, like most Nupes executives, did not hesitate for a moment after the revelation of the accusations of sexual violence against Taha Bouhafs. Before the revelations, he was still widely supported after his decision to withdraw his candidacy from the legislative campaign, explaining that he “weathered an unprecedented storm of attacks”, with “new slander every day” against him. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, followed by many rebels, had immediately denounced “a pack [qui] was fierce” against the candidate. Then, on May 10, the party announced that it was launching an internal investigation into its former candidate. And the same Nupes executives then unambiguously supported the supposed victims.
