Two illegal Koranic schools closed

The prefect of Hérault, Hugues Moutouh, ordered the closure of two illegal Koranic schools. These two structures were the subject of an unexpected visit by the State services, Wednesday morning, by the members of the departmental security sub-committee. The two establishments were located in the Tourney district, in Montpellier.

The Tawakkoul Institute housed classrooms welcoming more than ninety minor children, aged 6 to 15 years. In the second structure, the multicultural center of Occitanie, around sixty children, the youngest of whom were estimated to be three or four years old, were grouped together in a collective reception for unauthorized minors. A prayer room open to the public without authorization was also discovered.

Fight against indoctrination practices

The prefect of Hérault will take an order closing the illegal collective reception of minors and he has asked the mayor of Montpellier, in accordance with his police powers, for the immediate closure of the two establishments. “The prefect of Hérault, wishes to recall that he has initiated a fight in the department against the practices of indoctrination conveying values ​​contrary to the Republic among young children”, explains the communication service of the prefecture.
