A new act of vandalism on a work of art. Two environmental activists stuck their hands this Saturday on the frame of two paintings by Goya, at the Prado museum in Madrid, in order to denounce the inaction of the authorities in the face of global warming, we learned from the Spanish police. .
The two activists, who did not damage the paintings but tagged “+1.5°C” on the wall between the two paintings, in reference to the warming objective set by the international community, were arrested and taken into custody, according to the police.
In a video posted online by Extinction rebellion, an environmental collective adept in civil disobedience, we see the two activists each with their hands fixed on a painting, in one of the rooms of the museum, before being taken care of by officials. museum security.
“Sign of protest”
According to Extinction rebellion, the two paintings in question are The Naked Maja and The Clothed Maja, by the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya (1746-1828). This action is “a sign of protest” against “the rise in global temperature, which will cause an unstable climate with serious consequences on the whole planet”, underlines the collective in a press release.
This action follows several others of this type carried out by climate activists, who have targeted famous works of art in several cities in Europe.
