Météo-France is warning this Saturday March 30 of a major risk of flooding. Two departments are placed on red alert. Others are affected by an orange alert.
Two French departments are affected this Saturday March 30 by a red alert for floods, as the Météo-France alert in its 4 p.m. bulletin. it’s about the Vienna and theIndre-et-Loire.
Five others are concerned by orange vigilance for this same risk. These are the following departments: Gironde, Haute-Vienne, Dordogne, Charente-Maritime and Charente.
“Transition to red flood vigilance of two watercourses: Creuse downstream (dep. 37, 86) and Vienne (dep. 37) on its Touraine part. Five other watercourses to orange flood vigilance. Be careful and stay informed”, underlines the Vigicrue agency in a publication.
Météo-France has also updated its forecasts for the day of Sunday March 31, where these same 2 departments will still be on red alert, but another department, the Alpes-Maritimes, will be added to the orange alerts for an avalanche risk.
“The orange avalanche vigilance on Mercantour (06) could be extended to the Azurian Alps as well as to the northern massifs of the Hautes-Alpes depending on the quantities of snow which will actually fall on the Écrins”, indicates the lookout.
Call for great vigilance
The move of several departments to red alert is not trivial. As the agency points out, “very significant flooding is possible, including in rarely flooded areas”.
Weather conditions can seriously degrade traffic; it is strongly recommended not to use your car or travel. “Power outages of varying duration may occur. Phenomena of rupture or overflow of dikes may occur,” adds the agency.
