Two children die in house fire on Christmas Eve

Two children died this Saturday morning in a house fire in Selles (Eure). The victims, a girl about 8 years old and a boy about ten years old, had not been able to get out of the burning building and were in cardio-respiratory arrest when the firefighters, called around 3:45 a.m., succeeded to evacuate them.

A third child, also in cardio-respiratory arrest, was able to be revived. The young girl, aged about twelve, was evacuated to a Parisian hospital “in absolute urgency”.

In total, five adults and five children from the same family were in this secondary residence, according to Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet, secretary general of the prefecture of Eure.

The five adults and two other children were able to get out of the building in time, including the nonagenarian great-grandmother, said Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet.

For the time being, the origin of the fire is not known, according to information from France Blue Normandy. An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the fire, which “remain unknown at this stage”, added the secretary general of the Eure prefecture.
