Two brothers launch a co-subscription platform to pay Netflix or Spotify “half the price”

Those who don’t want ads while watching anime, or those who always wanted to know if YouTube Premium is really worth it, might want to give Diivii a try. Two brothers from Clichy-la-Garenne (Hauts-de-Seine), Anthony and Tom Chemaly, aged 24 and 29, launched their platform at the start of the year. They want to “allow several people to get in touch, and to pay several for a subscription”. More than 130 sites, from the best known like Netflix or Spotify, to “niche” platforms, including video game sites, are listed on Divii.

“It’s cheaper to take the premium offer, with four or five places, and share it on the platform, than to take the standard offer,” explains Anthony Chemaly. The platform now has more than 30,000 users in France. On average, it would save 340 euros per year for young people who use it.

To limit account sharing, Netflix plans to charge a supplement to users who share their subscription, from the beginning of 2023. “It should not change much, because even with this supplement of 3 euros, it remains cheaper to do co-subscription, ”says Anthony.

“During the first confinement, we were bored going around in circles, and we got to the end of what we wanted to see on Netflix,” says Anthony. The two brothers then began to take an interest in the content offered by other entertainment platforms. But difficult for them to assume the cost. “If you want to subscribe to several platforms, the price goes up very quickly,” they say.

The idea comes to them to create a platform intended to divide the costs of subscriptions. In 2020, Tom, and one of his classmates from Efrei Paris, Raphaël, are in their final year of engineering school. For a year, they develop the co-subscription platform, in parallel with their courses. Anthony has already finished his marketing studies. Together, they set up the “Diivii” project, for which they now work full time. “We manage to live on it, we would like to hire soon. »

Pay “twice as much as before”

Also a student at Efrei Paris, Flavien hears about the platform created by the alumni, which he has been testing for a few months. Before, to have access to Netflix and MyCanal, he paid 20 euros per month. “Today, I pay 10 euros per month for the same content, twice as much as before. This allows him to save money, not insignificant for a student who “has no salary”. He now hesitates to subscribe to Spotify so as not to “be constantly bothered by ads”. It would cost him 3 euros per month, three times cheaper.

An opportunity all the more interesting that “for students, the price is lower”. The founders of Diivii have established partnerships with around twenty French schools and universities, including EDHEC, EM Lyon and Aftec. “By registering with your student email address, you have the right to promotions,” explains Morgan, head of the BDE at Efrei Paris. “We mainly target students because they are the most affected by purchasing power problems,” says Anthony. And this can encourage them to stop watching series in streaming. »
