two babies found dead in freezer

A woman was taken into custody according to the public prosecutor of Carpentras.

The frozen bodies of two babies were found in a freezer Thursday, in the town of Bédoin (Vaucluse), “at the home of a woman” still in police custody, told our colleagues from AFP the prosecutor of the Republic of Carpentras, Hélène Mourges.

“The file begins and the facts are of a criminal nature”, specified the magistrate, explaining that the discovery took place in the morning, after “the call of a third party” to the gendarmerie.

The woman arrested on the spot, a 41-year-old mother residing in this town at the foot of Mont Ventoux, has been in police custody since 11 a.m.

Upcoming autopsies

At this stage of the investigation, it is impossible to specify the age or sex of the babies found frozen, as well as their possible links between them or with the woman in police custody.

“It is difficult at this stage to give details,” insisted Hélène Mourges, adding that “samples have been taken” to learn more about the two children. “The autopsy will tell us more”, added the prosecutor, specifying that it could only take place within “a certain time”, “because all precautions have been taken to preserve all the scientific evidence”.

The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie brigade of Carpentras. The link between the person who called the gendarmes and the woman in police custody was not specified by the prosecution.

The public prosecutor of Carpentras announced that she will give more details on this file on Friday morning, via a press release.
