Two arrests in the case of the kidnapped Syrian from Karlstadt am Main – Bavaria

The police have arrested two Georgians as urgent suspects after the kidnapping of a 33-year-old Syrian. The case was somewhat strange from the start: The Syrian was pulled into a van in broad daylight in Karlstadt am Main, Lower Franconia, on November 10th, as the police and public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday. Five days later he was released near the train station in Meckesheim, Baden-Württemberg, and reported to relatives. The man had physical and psychological injuries and was apparently abused for days.

Extensive investigations by the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and police authorities from other federal states finally led to the wanted van in Kassel – and to two suspects aged 30 and 32. During apartment searches in Sömmerda, Thuringia, and in Kassel, “extensive evidence” was seized, which suggested “direct involvement in the crime.” According to the current state of the investigation, the searched apartment in Kassel is also the murder apartment. The investigators assume that the kidnapping was carried out for extortion.
