Twitter trend check: “Instead of #tank discount I read ‘drinking discount’ and maybe that would be a good alternative.”

Refueling is currently no fun

Looking at today’s Twitter trends, the topic that’s moving the most people is the ending fuel discount. We looked at what the Germans have to say about it.

It’s Thursday September 1st. If we take a look at what’s trending on Twitter today – the topics most people write about – it’s not surprising that we find there: #fuel discount. Today the fuel subsidy introduced by the traffic light coalition ended, and very punctually the prices at the petrol pumps shot up significantly. Understandably, many people had an opinion on this – which they immediately wanted to share with the world via Twitter.

We have put together a cross-section of them for you:

Many people in Germany seem to have decided to take the disaster at the gas station with a large dose of black humor. Many point out that directly after the introduction of the tank discount, the prices were by no means lower, but that it took weeks before refueling became noticeably cheaper. The reason: At the petrol stations, the old petrol that had previously been bought at a more expensive price should have been sold off first.

Experience of some Twitter users: Gas stations only reluctantly passed on the discount

The motorists accepted this argument with astonishing understanding. But now, of course, many people notice that the cheaper petrol bought from the petrol stations during the discount period magically seemed to have sold out exactly at midnight, which is why the prices had to be increased immediately … It is understandable that there was a or others stop laughing. Especially when the car is the only realistic way to get to work or even to go shopping.

The popular 9-euro ticket is also ending at the same time as the tank discount is abolished, which means that many people can no longer easily afford to switch to public transport. A really difficult time that hits everyone with a rather low income especially hard.
