Elon Musk’s Twitter deal is nearing completion. The Tesla CEO paid around 44 billion US dollars for the microblogging service with around 211 million users.

According to the annual report for the fourth quarter of 2021, 217 million people use Twitter. In fact, however, many more people are likely to be following what is happening on the pages of the microblogging service, such as data from the extra Show Digital Consumer Survey. In India alone, 47 percent of respondents say they use the platform regularly. In Europe, the proportion is particularly high in the United Kingdom (34 percent).

In Germany, Twitter is comparatively unpopular, as the chart shows, but here too, at 17 percent, there are a few million regular readers. The reason for the imbalance between users and accounts may be that on the one hand Twitter can also be read without own access. On the other hand, tweets are also often integrated into online media.
