Twenty-two years in prison required after escape from Réau prison

A sentence of twenty-two years in prison was requested Tuesday before the Paris Assize Court against the “king of beauty” Rédoine Faïd, tried alongside 11 people for his spectacular escape from prison by helicopter de Réau (Seine-et-Marne) in 2018. In the box, the repeat robber with a bald head welcomed these requisitions with a smile and an indifferent whistle.

For his five relatives, suspected of having helped him during the escape or the three-month run that followed, the prosecution requested sentences ranging from four to fifteen years in prison, and the acquittal of the brother who was in the meeting with him at the time of the facts, due to lack of evidence proving that he was informed.

Rédoine Faïd “recognizes all the facts”, admitted the prosecution at the end of an indictment lasting almost seven hours in two voices, and after a month and a half of hearing. “That said, it was impossible for him to deny the escape from his own visiting room. »

“7 minutes 33”, without a shot

On July 1, 2018 at the end of the morning, an armed commando landed in a helicopter in front of Réau prison after taking the pilot hostage. They had thrown smoke bombs and sawed several gates to gain access to the visiting rooms where the robber, now 51 years old, was located.

A “carefully prepared” escape within a “family unit”, relatives that the repeat robber “sacrificed” to find freedom, argued the prosecution.

This escape, without a shot being fired, lasted “7 minutes 33”, recalls the attorney general. It was the second, for Rédoine Faïd, who had already escaped spectacularly in 2013 from Sequedin prison (North), by taking guards hostage and blowing up the doors with explosives.

Verdict on Wednesday October 25

Rédoine Faïd “refuses to submit to the execution of the long sentences that remain” for him to serve, and favors “the violent reconquest of his freedom”, launched the attorney general. “This freedom junkie who does not exclude your audience from escaping again”, does not “seek freedom, he snatches it”.

Rédoine Faïd, whose sentence is currently scheduled to end in 2046, faces life imprisonment. His co-defendants risk 10 to thirty years in prison. Defense arguments are scheduled to begin Wednesday and end Friday. On Monday, the court must hear the last words of the accused before retiring to deliberate. The verdict is expected Wednesday October 25.
