Twenty-six unaccompanied minors out of the 44 who were rescued by the humanitarian ship ocean viking left the reception facilities made available to them by the Var Departmental Council, the latter said in a press release on Thursday. “This Thursday, November 17, it was reported to the public prosecutor the runaway of 26 minors”, specified the community, confirming announcements of its president in the press.
“Three of the 44 minors had already run away the next day and the day after their care”, and Thursday morning “that makes 23 more minors who are missing”, declared Jean-Louis Masson, the president LR of the department, Thursday at Figaro. “It was predictable for us,” reacted to AFP Christophe Paquette, deputy director general in charge of solidarity at the Var departmental council.
A majority of Eritreans
Among these 26 minors was a majority of Eritreans who, according to him, “never stay” because “they have specific objectives in northern European countries” such as the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland or even Germany, where they want to join family or relatives.
These migrants, considered minors, were not in a closed waiting area, unlike some 190 other adults who landed in Toulon on Friday after two weeks of wandering in the Mediterranean aboard the Ocean Viking, the ambulance ship of SOS Mediterranean.
