There are hardly any limits to the price of new televisions – but even with a budget of a maximum of 1,500 euros, you can bring the top-quality home cinema feeling into your living room. Stiftung Warentest tested 17 new models.

Winter time is TV time – and during the current bargain weeks, many people are looking for a new TV set. Matching it has Stiftung Warentest put 17 current models to the test and chose the best devices in the popular sizes 65, 55 and 48 inches. It is noticeable that one manufacturer’s technology in particular is still way ahead. If you get an OLED TV from LG in the category you want, that’s usually the best option. Small note: The prices quoted by Stiftung Warentest do not correspond to reality, especially around Black Friday – most devices are currently cheaper.

65 inches for less than 1500 euros is possible – but never perfect

In the largest category, 65-inch devices, OLED for less than 1500 euros is unfortunately hardly possible apart from discount campaigns. Otherwise, an OLED might have the edge here too, as other test series show. However, if you set yourself that limit, other manufacturers will take the top spots. This time the best device comes from Sony. The GQ65Q70CAT for 1280 euros received a “good” rating of 2.4. The testers praised the good picture and the good handling, but only gave the sound a “satisfactory” rating. This is not unusual for comparatively cheap televisions – the quality of the sound is often not particularly good. If you connect a soundbar or external speakers, this shouldn’t play a role when purchasing.

The cheapest giant is the one LG 65UR78006LK for 730 euros – that’s actually cheap for a 65-inch TV. In the test, it was only enough for an overall grade of 2.6 (“satisfactory”) due to a merely “satisfactory” picture. Curious: Of all things, the cheapest 65-inch television impressed with the best sound among the large-caliber models. By the way, it seems to be the best overall package in this category Samsung with the GU65CU7179U to deliver, because the picture, sound and handling were each rated “good”. However, for the device costing 770 euros, excessive power consumption leads to a devaluation, resulting in an overall grade of 3.0 (“satisfactory”).

At 55 inches, the money is enough for a “very good” picture

It is noticeable that compromises have to be accepted with almost all devices in the 65-inch league. Sometimes there is a problem with the sound, sometimes with the picture, sometimes with the consumption. Things are looking better in the league of 55-inch devices – and from here OLED televisions from LG also come into financial reach. This is how he proves it LG OLED55B39LA by far the best place and received an overall grade of 1.8 (“good”). The device owes the result primarily to the image quality, as it was awarded a “very good” (1.4) due to the OLED panel. There are also good marks for sound and handling – only the power consumption could be better. In terms of price, however, the device is also at the set limit – apart from offer battles, around 1,460 euros are due.

Smaller is not necessarily cheaper

If you would like something smaller, you will also find it at LG if it is to be the test winner from the current comparison. The LG OLED48C37LA for 1320 euros scored “good” (1.9). Here too, the gap to second place is relatively large. The successes of the 55-inch model are repeated: picture “very good”, sound and handling “good”, power consumption “satisfactory”. However, if you look at the price, the desire for a small device must be very great – you can get 7 inches more for just 140 euros extra.
