TVs at CES 2023: TV highlights from Las Vegas

As recently as September, it was said at the IFA in Berlin that 65 inches was the new 55 inches. In other words, televisions in normal households are getting bigger and bigger, as if by magic. It seems as if the next step is imminent, because at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, 65 inches is already the boring standard. Almost every manufacturer strives to offer models above this formerly magical limit. Some are already moving towards 100 inches. But that’s not all that’s set to change in the TV landscape this year.

CES 2023: let there be light!

In almost all presentations of the manufacturers, be it Samsung, Panasonic, TCL or LG, you hear about increased brightness of the televisions. An attribute that was always important, but is now apparently experiencing a jolt again. This year, statements such as “2000 Nits” are being thrown around, as if one were finally about to leave an apparently dark time behind.

In fact, a brightness of more than 2000 nits would be remarkable for a large television, but the devices often only achieve this in picture modes whose display is anything but realistic. It remains to be seen whether the new models can reconcile their radiance with a flawless image.

No more tangled cables

The oddball at the fair is undoubtedly a new player: Displace TV. At the CES, the manufacturer is showing a completely wireless 55-inch television for the first time, which only records all content via streaming protocols and, thanks to several batteries with a daily running time of around six hours, does not have to go to the charging station for a month. The device also comes without a stand. Displace replaces this with suction cups on the back, which can cling to smooth surfaces with vacuum.

LG follows a very similar concept, but relies on screen diagonals instead of mobility. The LG OLED M3 is 97 inches tall and only needs a power cable. The “Zero Connect Box” is responsible for all players, which should also transmit complex signals wirelessly to the television without delay.

For the average consumer who is looking for a new television this year, the manufacturers have of course also packed new products. You will get to know some of them in our photo series.
