Pilawa starts with “Quiz for you” on Sat.1

Jörg Pilawa was recently an important face of ARD. Now the 56-year-old is daring to do something new – and is also relying on the tried and tested.
“Quizduell”, “NDR Talk Show”, “Herzblatt”, “The New Year’s Eve Show with Jörg Pilawa”… – over the past two decades, the Hamburg moderator Jörg Pilawa has helped shape the evening program on ARD and NDR.
Now he has said goodbye to public television and has re-joined Sat. 1, where he was on the payroll for several years as a young man. On Wednesday (March 9th), 8:15 p.m., he will be showing his first production on the private broadcaster.
It’s a quiz again. But a very special one, as Pilawa tells the German Press Agency in Hamburg. “Quiz for you” is “really the first quiz that says thank you.”
“I’m on fire again”
In the new game show, which is an adaptation of the Dutch program “Deze quiz is voor jou” with Linda de Mol, two celebrity duos earn money. The sum won – up to 32,000 euros are possible – goes to a total of two volunteers who are surprised by the prize with a hidden camera at the end. For example, they are cooking with friends and are suddenly approached directly by Pilawa over the television and surprised by the windfall. Pilawa was immediately convinced of this concept, he says. “I felt at that moment that I was burning again.”
Pilawa himself recently said that he wanted to get out of his comfort zone with his change of channel. The fact that it’s a quiz again doesn’t seem to conflict with that.
«The game with the hidden camera appealed to me. I found it exciting and challenging to surprise these great people with a prize, to lure them into a positive ‘trap’ with friends and then to make them happy with the prize.» This additional level makes the show more surprising and less predictable.
Profit for volunteers
He also likes the idea that committed people “who make our world a better place every day in their free time” are the winners. “In the last two years in particular we have seen that our country is held together in particular by volunteer work. (…) In my new show, celebrities now quiz for such brilliant people.»
In the first episode of the more than two-hour program, which will be broadcast every Wednesday in the future, Ralf Schmitz and Pierre M. Krause as well as Linda Zervakis and Jeannine Michaelsen play in the first round. In the second round Katarina Witt and Henry Maske as well as Ralf Moeller and Henning Baum.
Pilawa is still present on ARD and NDR with recordings of “Quizduell Olymp”, “NDR Quizshow” and the “NDR Talkshow”. “Thank you at this point to the ARD and Sat. 1. Both sides have behaved very fairly and appreciatively.”
And Pilawa also promises that he will do more than “just” quizzes on Sat. 1 in the future. “Yes, we talk a lot and the quizonkel will certainly be romping about in the Sat. 1 program apart from A, B, C or D answers. But we’re taking it easy.”
