A homeless woman tells a journalist that she will shoot a man in six weeks. Shocked, Norah tries not to let this prophecy come true – in the exciting series “The Shadow”.

Norah is completely perplexed when a beggar woman in Vienna makes a dark prophecy: “You bring death” and “On August 13th you will kill a man named Arthur Grimm at the Prater.” The young journalist would like to dismiss this as nonsense, but at the same time she is unsure.

Strange things happen in the days that follow. Can this all be coincidence? From Sunday (June 25) at 8.15 p.m., ZDFneo will be showing the six-part mystery series “Der Schatten” with a strong leading actress Deleila Piasko.

After separating from her boyfriend in Berlin, Norah moved to Vienna and started there as a young journalist at a newspaper. Performance artist Wolfgang Balder (Andreas Pietschmann), who is suffering from cancer, wants Norah to report on his latest project. Her colleague Emil (Aaron Friesz) is jealous. He had wanted to write the story.

Norah slams Balder for an earlier project: He had manipulated a woman to the point that she cut her own face. Balder considered this an art. Norah is distracted with her research. She can’t get the beggar’s prophecy out of her head. Things are disappearing from her apartment.

And August 13th is the anniversary of the death of her best friend from school. Valerie had committed suicide at the time, which Norah hasn’t let go of to this day.

What is imagination, what is reality?

Arthur Grimm is said to have hit women. Norah thinks the man may have been dating Valerie at the time too. She gets more and more involved in her research and at some point she no longer knows what is real and what she is perhaps only imagining.

Not even the policeman she confides in believes her. Norah can only count on one young neighbor. August 13th is approaching and Norah fears she is going insane. Will she actually shoot a man?

“Der Schatten” is an “incredibly atmospherically written mystery thriller,” says director Nina Vukovic, according to ZDF, about the book by author Melanie Raabe. It’s about the shadows of the past that accompany people, and about art and power.

From the point of view of main actress Piasko, there is a central question about the series: “What does it take to drive a person insane?”
