Markus Lanz clearly has trouble squeezing the new topic into the final minutes of the show. You can see it in his approaches to the transition. A first attempt: “Before we start vaccinating now…” Another: “The keyword just came up”. Another: “I’m so grateful for exactly this transition…” At some point, the moderator actually managed to break off the discussion about the war in Ukraine and broach the pandemic. In the background, the symbolic photo is quickly exchanged, Defense Minister Lambrecht gives way to a yellow town sign on which the word “Corona” is crossed out. The awkwardness is somehow also symptomatic of how the pandemic has slipped to the fringes of the debate in recent weeks.
