The controversial summer hit “Layla” achieved a very good rating in a ZDF family program. But women’s football puts everything in the shade with a record.

The hit duo DJ Robin & Schürze probably contributed to a very good rating of the family show “ZDF-Fernsehgarten” with their scandal hit “Layla”: 2.25 million (21.6 percent) tuned in on Sunday from 12 p.m. this made the “Fernsehgarten” the third strongest ZDF format of the day.

The musicians presented the controversial hit in the original version. Opinions are divided on the sing-along song about a “brothel” who is “prettier, younger, hornier” because of accusations of sexism. While the summer hit of 2022 was deliberately not played at several folk festivals, the “Fernsehgarten” audience celebrated the song at the open-air show and danced a polonaise exuberantly. The edition had the party motto “Mallorca vs. Oktoberfest” and brought together a number of successful mood musicians.

The soccer women break the odds record

However, the ratings hit of the day was the live broadcast of the European Championship final in women’s football. An average of 17.897 million people watched the German team lose 2-1 to the English Lionesses after extra time. The market share of 64.8 percent was a record: never before have so many people in Germany watched a women’s soccer game on television.

The competition followed at a distance. The ZDF holiday melodrama “Das Traumschiff: Japan” with Sascha Hehn, Barbara Wussow and Nick Wilder reached 3.38 million (11.6 percent). The US fantasy adventure “Kong: Skull Island” with Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson wanted to see 1.22 million (4.5 percent).

The “Grill den Henssler Summer Special” with, among others, Mirja Boes, Reiner Calmund and Christian Rach at Vox came to 1.18 million (5.4 percent). 1.16 million (4.5 percent) spent the evening with the RTL talent show “Show us your voice”. The action comedy “Bad Spies” with Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon and Òlafur Darri Òlafsson on Sat.1 attracted 930,000 viewers (3.5 percent).

The Kabel-eins documentary series “Yes we camp!” attracted 630,000 people (2.2 percent). The science fiction film “Terminator II – Judgment Day” with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Robert Patrick had 600,000 viewers (2.4 percent) on RTLzwei.
