Caren Miosga traveled around Ukraine as a reporter and spoke to the people about their hopes and fears. On Wednesday evening she moderates the “Daily Topics” from Kyiv.

Six months after the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, ARD broadcast its “Tagesthemen” live from Kyiv. “Good evening and welcome from the capital of Ukraine to an unusual edition of the “Daily Topics”,” said moderator Caren Miosga in greeting. In addition to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the program also featured Ukrainians who spoke about their lives during the war.

“War in Europe, we must not get used to it,” said Helge Fuhst, second editor-in-chief of ARD-aktuell, the German Press Agency in advance. “That’s why we’re putting a special focus in the “Daily Topics” after six months of aggressive war, giving insights from on the ground and showing how people are dealing with the constant threat.”

It is not the first time that the “daily topics” have been broadcast from abroad. In 2020, the program for the US election came from Washington, in 2012 there was a program from Moscow and Hamburg because of the presidential election in Russia. The six-month war was also the focus of news programs from other broadcasters on Wednesday.
