TÜV appointment overdue? You must reckon with this penalty

The Technical Monitoring Association or TÜV for short checks vehicles for their roadworthiness in this country. If a vehicle passes the test, it receives a corresponding sticker and can usually be used on the road for two years. If the two years have passed, the car has to go back to the main inspection. According to the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations, this period must not be exceeded. But what actually happens when you overrun the TÜV? Anyone who misses the deadline for the main inspection commits an administrative offence. If the deadline is exceeded by more than two months, a traffic check can result in a fine of 15 euros, for example. From four months the fine increases to 25 euros, after more than eight months 60 euros and one point are due. The TÜV itself does not levy a fine, but if there is a delay of two months they are obliged to carry out an extended general inspection. This can increase TÜV costs by 20 percent. By the way: In the event of an accident, most car insurers also cover damage if the TÜV has already expired. In the event of negligent action, however, it can happen that the insurance company reclaims part of the damage sum from the insured person.
