The Turner Prize in England, which in its first decades served as a springboard to art fame, has in recent years become a showcase for radical counterpositions to salable art. Political themes became the leitmotif of this most important British award for contemporary art, in which the most convincing of four exhibitions on the island is rewarded with 25,000 pounds. After collectives and activists had been shortlisted in previous years, the shortlist in the 39th year was, in the broadest sense, about the abuse of power by state institutions.
