STORY: There was great joy in Turkey early Tuesday morning when American cave explorer Mark Dickey, who had to spend over a week in a cave with health problems, was rescued in an international effort. More than 150 rescuers from Turkey, Croatia, Italy and other countries worked for nine days to bring him to the surface. The feeling was overwhelming, Dickey explained, it was the first time something like this had happened to him. Better for the last time, a rescuer calls out. Dilek Deniz Duman from Ankara is one of the people to whom Dickey owes his life. “I tried not to cry for days, even though the work was very emotional. After all, we are the rescuers here, we can’t get emotional. But when I saw him come out, I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I was so happy cried.” “In the end, we are all cave climbers. And a cave climber cannot be rescued by anyone other than another cave climber. To have taken part in such a rescue operation was very honorable. I consider it lucky.” The 40-year-old was on an exploration mission in the Morca Cave in the Taurus Mountains, at a depth of over 1,000 meters, when he began to suffer from stomach bleeding.
