In a large-scale operation, almost 200 rescue workers in Turkey have been trying to rescue an American caver from a depth of around 1,000 meters since Thursday. Mark Dickey, 40, was on an international fact-finding mission in the Morca Cave in the Taurus Mountains when he suffered gastrointestinal bleeding, Turkey’s Speleology Association TUMAF said. According to this, rescuers from Croatia are already with the patient. Cave rescuers from Italy also arrived on site. There is communication via a relocated telephone line, said a TUMAF spokesman. The rescuers on site would now have to decide whether the patient needed to be rescued with a stretcher. According to experts, the rescue could take up to ten days.
