Tugboat sunk in the Suez Canal – economy

A tugboat sank in the Suez Canal after colliding with a liquid gas tanker. A seaman died, as his relatives announced on Saturday. The canal authority said the six other crew members had been taken to a clinic. It was initially unclear whether the canal, and thus one of the most important waterways in the world, could be blocked for some time. In the evening, the authorities said that the passage of ships coming through the canal from the north had not been affected. With the ships coming from the south, everything went back to normal from midnight, as the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) announced. Around 15 percent of world trade goes through the Suez Canal in Egypt. In the spring of 2021, one of the world’s largest container freighters, the “Ever Given”, crossed the Suez Canal and blocked it for almost a week. Hundreds of ships were unable to navigate the waterway as a result, and global supply chains were severely disrupted.
