TSV 1860 Munich: Günther Gorenzel is leaving, three new players are coming – sport

Before he can go to Lake Wörthersee, Günther Gorenzel still had a few things to do. The sports manager of the third division soccer team TSV 1860 Munich doesn’t want to go on vacation to Carinthia, why should he, he lives there anyway. He will start a job there – as head of sports at the Austrian first division club Austria Klagenfurt. And after much back and forth, he can now leave the lions, with whom he is still under contract until June 30, 2024, early. This was reported by several media and coincides with SZ information.

It is an expected departure, as Gorenzel was sharply criticized by investor Hasan Ismaik and his Munich governors after the dismissal of coach Michael Köllner and the clearly missed promotion, which had once been the undisguised goal of the season. All the more curious is the course of his farewell in the context of the ongoing dispute between the 1860 shareholders: The e. V. representatives did not want to give up Gorenzel so urgently and insisted on a fee, as contractually stipulated – this is now, at least partially, covered by the income from an agreed test match between the two clubs. Before the sports director can leave, he also had to handle three transfers for the coming season – for a season in which he will no longer be responsible. This is what both shareholders wanted, both the investor side and e. V. representative.

And so Gorenzel brought in: David Richter, 24, previously a regular goalkeeper at the Southwest regional league team Offenbacher Kickers, who is supposed to compete with Marco Hiller; Left winger Julian Guttau, 23, from league rivals SC Freiburg II, who could replace the outgoing Joseph Boyamba; and, also from the third division, the six Marlon Frey, 27, from MSV Duisburg. The transfers appeared alternately first in the tz or at the dieblaue24.de portal. Gorenzel will have been amazed that they all became public before he could announce them, but he also doesn’t really care. This Wednesday afternoon, TSV 1860 wants to officially confirm them in a press release.

The transfer activities within the framework of the budget that has so far been approved by the investors have ended – it has been used up. Surprisingly, a new center forward after Marcel Bär’s departure is not there, so Fynn Lakenmacher and Meris Skenderovic have to fix it in this position. Unless the departure of the unloved Gorenzel causes Ismaik to agree to a budget increase after all – the income for the coming season is already 500,000 euros above plan, so far the amount has been used to cover the deficit that has been calculated and to be covered by the investor accordingly reduce.

The arrival of a Gorenzel successor that he trusts more could help change Ismaik’s mind on that front. But whether the e. V. and the investor representatives can agree on a new head of sports seems questionable – when they have already had such a hard time giving up the old one.
