Trust Wallet prepares to refund users After discovering a vulnerability that resulted in a loss of nearly $170,000

After Trust Wallet hasrevealDespite a security vulnerability that cost some users nearly $170,000, the company recently said the vulnerability had been patched.

Trust Wallet discovered the issue through a bug bounty program, with security researchers reporting a WebAssembly vulnerability in the open-source library Wallet Core in November 2022 where a new wallet address was created. “Between November 14 and November 23, 2022, this vulnerability is exploited by browser extensions,” the company said in a statement. It added that all addresses created before and after those dates were “safe.”

The vulnerability resulted in two breaches leading to nearly $170,000 in losses, andaddress leftApproximately 500 vulnerable wallets with a balance of $88,000, for which affected users will receive refunds and gas fee assistance to cover transfer costs.

“We want to reassure users that we will pay for damages from being hacked because of the vulnerability. and has created a reimbursement process for affected users. and we urge affected users [ให้] Move ~$88,000 USD balance on all vulnerable addresses ASAP.”

The company urges affected customers to create new wallets and transfer their funds. Users with vulnerable wallet addresses will be notified via the Trust Wallet browser extension, developers using the Wallet Core library in 2022 should install the latest version of Wallet Core.
