Donald Trump, here on February 24, filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against his ineligibility in several states for the 2024 presidential election.
UNITED STATES – Small victory for Donald Trump. The American Supreme Court decided this Wednesday, February 28 to study the case of the ex-president, who requests criminal immunity while he is accused of having tried to illegally reverse the results of the 2020 election.
The Supreme Court will have to say in the coming months whether the billionaire can actually be prosecuted for his role in this affair, in which he is indicted. To avoid a trial with a potentially explosive outcome, he assures him that he can benefit from immunity and cannot be tried because he was president at the time of the events.
The highest judicial institution should hear the parties the week of April 22 and render its decision no later than the end of June, according to the American agency Associated Press (AP). This postpones his trial in Washington by as much time, to the great dismay of Judge Tanya Chutkan who wanted to resolve the case quickly.
Donald Trump is buying time

If he is elected before a conviction, he would be protected from justice for the duration of his mandate, and could even pardon himself to permanently escape all prosecution.
The institution nevertheless heard the request of prosecutor Jack Smith. He asked the Court, if it decided to study the case, to set an accelerated timetable to then allow Donald Trump to be judged quickly if immunity was refused to him. L’“unique national importance of this criminal case” demands it, he felt.
