Troubleshooting at the DKB: Double postings back to accounts

Status: 07.11.2022 10:10 a.m

According to the bank, the money accidentally debited from the current accounts of DKB customers has been returned. The booking will be visible in the current account by today at the latest. The bank speaks of a technical fault.

After technical problems with the Internet banking of Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB), the amounts that were accidentally debited twice are back on the customer’s accounts. The DKB announced that all amounts had been returned by Sunday noon. Affected customers could see the chargebacks on their checking accounts today.

On Thursday, bookings from the beginning of October 2022 were wrongly re-executed. When the error was noticed, the bank canceled all double bookings and started chargebacks on Friday evening. Customers who ended up in the overdraft facility due to double bookings would not be charged overdraft interest, according to the bank’s website.

Technical difficulties

The bank writes on its website about the cause of the error: “The incorrect double bookings were caused in-house and not by service providers.” The bank apologized. “We have already taken all necessary measures to ensure that such double bookings will no longer happen with us in the future,” the statement said. The DKB did not want to provide information on the number of customers affected.

The direct bank based in Berlin has over 5000 employees and more than five million private and business customers. In terms of the number of customers, it is the second largest direct bank in Germany after ING-DiBa. In the first half of 2022, the group achieved a profit before taxes of EUR 123.0 million.
