There has been no shortage of painter’s corners in the foothills of the Alps since landscape painters fanned out there in the 19th century and paved the way for further tourism with their pictures of lakes and mountains. On Lake Chiemsee, the Malerwinkel is located on the northwestern bank between Gollenshausen and Seebruck and from there offers the best views of the sunrise over the water and, behind it, the Chiemgau Alps from Hochstaufen to the Kampenwand. This perspective has been adopted by the Hotel Malerwinkel for many decades. But his days are numbered. The new, significantly more voluminous hotel that is soon to be built there instead is met with some opposition on Lake Chiemsee.
