The dancing genes must run in the family: 13 years after Maite Kelly’s “Let’s Dance” victory, her nephew Gabriel wins the title of “Dancing Star”. In the finale of the RTL show, the jury is full of praise.
The Kellys can do it easily: Musician Gabriel Kelly has won the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” by a wide margin. In the final of the show in Cologne, the 22-year-old easily shook off his competition and received 90 jury points – the maximum number of points. Since the viewers also voted sufficiently for the offspring of the Kelly clan, he was named “Dancing Star 2024” together with dance partner Malika Dzumaev. “In the end, we are here now and we are simply overjoyed,” he said. He was following in his family’s footsteps: Aunt Maite Kelly had won the show in 2011.
The 22-year-old son of musician Angelo Kelly (The Kelly Family) had already gone into the final as the favorite. The jury had already praised him highly in recent weeks. On Friday, too, one tribute followed another. The usually strict juror Joachim Llambi even gave a kind of direct recommendation to the viewers at home. He wanted Kelly to win, he said. “Because he’s the best this year.” After Kelly’s first dance, juror Motsi Mabuse called out enthusiastically: “You killed it!” Kelly’s samba performance was the best anyone had ever seen on the show.
Choreographer Detlef Soost and his dance partner Ekaterina “Ekat” Leonova (third place) and sports presenter Jana Wosnitza and her dance partner Vadim Garbuzov (second place) were left behind.
Kelly was supported by his family in the studio during the finale. Shortly before his coronation, he thanked them for this. “Dad, I love you,” he said. “And you too, Mom, of course.” It was the 17th season of the popular format.
