It is not the first time that the US Senator and the Federal Chancellor have met. “Great to see my doppelganger again,” writes Scholz on X.

At first glance they look very similar: Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) met his American doppelganger Chris Coons during his visit to the US capital Washington. The 60-year-old is a senator from the state of Delaware and a member of the Democrats. The two met at a dinner with members of the US Congress.

“Great to see my doppelganger again,” Scholz tweeted in English (“Nice to see my doppelganger again”) and published a photo of the encounter. You can see the two taking a selfie together. Coons posted the selfie on his account and commented on the picture in German with the question: “Who is who?”

It’s not the first meeting between the two. A similar photo was taken at the World Economic Forum in Davos last year. The similar hairstyle, height and facial expressions of the two politicians caused amusement back then. During his visit to Washington, Scholz called for more military aid for Ukraine.
