“Trinity” skeleton under the hammer: who owns the T. rex?

The auction of a T. Rex in Zurich raises questions. Who owns a unique dinosaur skeleton? Science – or anyone who can afford it?

It is one of the largest carnivores that ever lived, armed with fearsome claws and up to 60 razor-sharp teeth. In the Cretaceous period, about 66 million years ago, tyrannosaurs and their relatives populated large parts of the world. However, skeletons of the most well-known species of T. rex can only be found in certain rock formations in North America, where primeval bones repeatedly come to light as a result of weathering. Treasures of incredible value are then within reach of anyone who can read the language of the rock.
