Hospitals in Guyana announced Wednesday that the “white plan” was lifted. “Given the evolution of the epidemiological situation”, the two directors and the director of the hospitals of Cayenne, Kourou and western Guyana “have decided to lift the white plan today”, they write in a press release. , while the incidence rate is 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, over seven days.

“In no case a way out of the crisis”

But hospital officials emphasize that the lifting of the white plan “does not in any way mean an end to the crisis”. In question: a “strong tension” maintained in “perinatal” in the face of “a significant increase in activity” and an understaffing of “specialized nurses”.

As of Wednesday, Guyana had more than 45,000 confirmed positive cases since the start of the pandemic, including 46 new cases in twenty-four hours, and 13 patients in intensive care. In total, according to the authorities, 322 people died from the coronavirus in hospitals in this territory. Guyana and Martinique remain the two territories where the “state of emergency” is extended until December 31, 2021.
