A trial against a funeral director accused of more than ten cases of fraud against three women began in Rostock’s district court on Tuesday. According to the indictment, the 49-year-old had sexual relations with all the women and borrowed large sums of money from them. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the total is around 200,000 euros. At the start of the trial, the client explained through his lawyer that he never had the intention of cheating on the women. One of the women testified as a witness.

The 64-year-old had met the accused in Krakow am See in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania after her husband’s death in 2017 and after some time began an intimate relationship with him. She lent him around 140,000 euros in several tranches over a period of months until April 2018. “He’s a master of manipulation,” said the woman, who is an entrepreneur herself. “I was like under hypnosis.” Except for an amount of around 8000 euros, she did not get any money back. The accused himself emphasized that the relationship was only about the “fun factor”. “As simple as that.” The trial will continue next Tuesday.
