The trial against an 18-year-old for the murder of a flower seller in Upper Franconia will be heard in the Coburg regional court from January. The court has fully approved the prosecution’s charges, a court spokesman said on Friday. First he had Franconian day reported. Six further dates are planned for the trial from January 16, 2024 until the end of January. Due to the defendant’s age at the time of the crime, the hearing was being held behind closed doors, the spokesman said.
The then 17-year-old teenager is said to have killed the 50-year-old with a knife in a flower shop in Lichtenfels in March of this year. Passers-by discovered the woman’s body after they noticed that around 9 p.m., well after closing time, everything was still set up outside and the front door was unlocked. Police arrested the suspect a good two weeks after the crime.
In April, a good three weeks after the man’s arrest, investigators found the suspected murder weapon. During a search “in the suspect’s home,” investigators discovered a knife that, according to initial findings, was used for the violent act, it was said. The investigators also discovered DNA traces at the crime scene that matched the suspect.
Even after the indictment, the public prosecutor’s office did not provide any details – pointing out that the defendant was a minor at the time of the crime and therefore special legal rules apply.
