Stephanie Jesse only has to call once, and then the six puppies come scurrying squeaking and stand in a row on their hind legs at the entrance to their enclosure. From there they look expectantly at Jesse with their shiny dark eyes. The 54-year-old praises the playful gang in high tones, almost as if she were talking to human babies. Then she grins broadly. “I’ve turned my passion into a job,” she says, putting a feeding bowl on the floor for the little dogs. The strongest specimens literally lie down in it. At the latest, this is the moment when visitors can no longer help but exhale a delighted “how sweet”.
